Early Life Ian Fleming was born in London in 1908. His father, Major Valentine Fleming, was killed in world war one Ian was educated at Eton and Sand Hurst. He left Sand Hurst because he didn’t like the military discipline. He then went to the University of Munich and the University of Geneva. Finally at the age of 23 he found himself without a job so he started working as a journalist. Early Jobs After he worked as a journalist he began a job as a banker/stockbroker. He then enlisted in the Royal Navy in 1939. In the Navy he rose to the rank of commander and started working for one of Britain’s top spies. The man he worked for gave him the idea for a future character in his James Bond series. He then left to live in Jamaica. Life and Death in Paradise He made a large house in Jamaica that he named Goldeneye. In Goldeneye he lived in Paradise for several years before marrying Anne Rothermere. While waiting to be married he wrote the first Bond book Casino Royale. After writing Casino Royale he became friends with many famous author. On August 11 of 1964 his heart began to fail and he began bleeding internally. He died on August 12 at the age of 56. His wife died in 1981. Various Accomplishments Over his lifetime Fleming published 14 James Bond books. These started with the book Casino Royale. The series went on to include Live and let Die, Moonraker, Diamonds are Forever, From Russia with love, Dr No, Goldfinger, Thunderball, For Your Eyes Only, OHMSS, The Spy who Loved Me, You only live twice, The Man with the Golden Gun. The series was ended with The Living Daylights. He is now buried in Seven Hampton. - by 007 |
