Louis Sachar(1954 - present ) |
| History
Louis Sachar had a very interesting childhood. Louis was born on March 20, 1954 in East Meadow, New York. At the of age nine he moved to Tustin, California. He attended to the University of California. He was also a teacher's aide at the time he was there to receive extra credit. It turned out that it was his favorite class of all. Today, he is living in Austin, Texas with his wife Clara and his daughter Sherre. Inspirations Many things inspired Louis to become a great writer all during his life even though he might have not noticed it. His childhood was a big impact , most of his books are life experiences' he has done, saw, or heard about. The most inspiring was when he took a teacher's aide class for extra credit and it turned out to be his favorite class which made him start writing children's books, but not as a career, yet. He was inspired to write Stories from Wayside School because he attended to Wayside before he moved from New York to California. Those are the things that inspired Louis to write children's books. Accomplishments Louis had many other accomplishments than just writing children's books. After he graduated he started off poorly. He had a job in a sweater warehouse in Connecticut. He got fired from that job because he would stay late and write books, he was hooked on writing. Then he went to law school, to become a lawyer, which later he became one. He then realized that neither career worked, so he became a full-time writer. Those are his other accomplishments in life besides writing. Award, not Awards Louis Sachar has written many books. Only one, won an award, Holes. Holes won the Newbery Award in 1998. He has written a lot more books, that unfortunately, did not get awards. Such as: There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom, Dogs Don't Tell Jokes, Sideways Stories from Wayside School, the Marvin Redpost series, Holes, and his most recent which just came out in January 2006 Small Steps. Those are the books he has written and the awards he has received for them.
