Life Facts Matt Christopher was born in August 16, 1927. Matt loved to play basebll. Sadly he only made it semi professional. His love for sports was carried in a different way. As a freshman in high school he started writing. He began with action comic or news letters. as his writing ability proceeded he became more and more popular selling more and more books. By the time he was in college he was a professional writer and has now sold over 6,000,000 books. Second Life Matt Christopher not only won awards for his books but also for baseball. Its hard to imagine this old of a guy playing one of the hardest sports known to man. Not only was he semi professional he could have been full time professional starting in 1938. He won the MVP that year for the minor leagues and in September was drafted to play a Major league exabitoion game against the New York Giants. Christopher refused because he wanted to be a full time writer. After that year he stopped playing baseball all together. That's devotion, to give up a chance in the majors to write books. Awards Christopher somehow never won any "big name" awards but did sell over six million books. He did win many small awards from boy scouts and many things or that sort. Matt wrote about 100 published books and around 275 unpublished magazines or writings of that sort. Writing History First story that he ever wrote was "The Lucky Bat". It was published in 1930. That book was just the beginning. Matt wrote many sport stories and a few adventure. He had a story or stories for every sport and even Bios on other great athletes such as Mia Hamm, Derek Jeter or even Tiger Woods. Most of the stories were about baseball because he could relate to the sport best. he had 24 books out on baseball. His personal favorite was "The Kid Who Only Hit Homers".
