A picture of the Good Doctor

     Isaac Asimov

Isaac Asimov was born on January 2 1920 in a town named Petrovichi, in pre-Soviet Russia. His mom actually changed his birth date to January 2 1919, when they came to America, so he could get into school earlier. That is basically the only information I could find on his schooling. He thus started to read when he was five. He moved to the United States in 1923 and he never actually learned to read or write Russian. Soon after moving to The United States, his parents opened a candy store, where he spent much of his childhood years. During this time he began to write a book, which he never named. It was somewhat of a failure since he claimed that he had no vision for it, but this still started him, down the road to writing. He got married in 1942 and had one child, Robyn. Much to his dismay, his wife divorced him in 1973, because she though he was an unhappy and grumpy person. He was suffering from a disease, and never told her. She also divorced him because he was known to write eight hours a day and seven days a week.

Isaac Asimov spent the last years of his life tying up several of his uncompleted series’. He also wrote several highly demanded books about his life. He did want to spend more time with his wife, but she urged him on. His last books became extremely popular and are considered some of his best works. His long and successful life ended in 1993, having written almost 500 books.

Unbelievably most of his ideas for books, really come from nowhere. Although his most famous novels, the Foundation series was based off of The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire. In his massive writing career, he won dozens of writing awards. His most famous of which is the Grand Master of Science Fiction. He held this very important title for many years. He also won the Hugo award several times. Unbelievably, almost 10 more big and small titles or award were given to him.

In the following quote, Isaac Asimov explains his philosophy, “You must keep sending work out; you must never let a manuscript do nothing but eat its head off in a drawer. You send that work out again and again, while you're working on another one. If you have talent, you will receive some measure of success - but only if you persist.” By using this quote as an example, I can see why he wrote so many novels. This really proves why he is one of the most successful writers of all time.
