       Background 

      Richard Paul Reilly was born on February 3, 1958, in Boulder Colorado . He went to Boulder High School , and in college went to University of Colorado where he began his career. He was a sophomore taking phoned-in high school volleyball scores. In 1983, he married his high school sweetheart, Linda Campbell.

 

         Awards 

      In all, Rick Reilly has won 10 National Sportswriter of the Year awards, and he has won it eight times in a row. He’s been an author for 23 years, and has won many other awards, such as the New York Newspaper Guild’s Page One for Best Magazine Story. His column, “Life of Reilly,” runs on the last page of Sports Illustrated. He is in his19th year for the magazine. His last book, The Life of Rick Reilly, won the New York Times bestseller. He wrote for two years at the Daily Camera, another two at the Denver Post, and two more at the Los Angeles Times before he went to Sports Illustrated in 1985. His writing style is mostly humorous, while he makes fun of athletes, coaches, and basically anyone else involved in sports. He also has a more serious side, such as writing about “small town” heroes, to within his own personal life.

 

      Other than writing

      Reilly enjoys magic, piano, mountain biking, SCUBA, basketball, skiing, and snowboarding. Although he writes a lot, he still has time to do some other things. He once flew in an F-14 at 600 miles per hour, and drove a stock car 142 mile per hour. He competed to get a spot in the WNBA against 107 women. Reilly also played 108 holes of golf in one day, and has been at the shooting of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition four times, being in an advertisement for Miller Lite with a swimsuit model once one of the times.

      Rick Reilly is now 45, and is still writing for Sports Illustrated. His wife, three kids, and he live in downtown Denver , Colorado .
