Richard George Adams

(1920 -  he is 86 and still liven life)

Richard George Adams was born in Newbury, Berkshire, England in 1920. There he grew up into a young adult. At the young age of 20 he joined the army and fought in World War two. He stayed put in the army for the next 6 years. He decided to go to Worcester College at the Oxford University. He wasn’t going to stay long though; in just two years he got his masters degree.

After he got his degree in college, he started working as a civil servant. Working for the government suited him for sixteen years. When he finally retired he didn’t know what else to do. Ever since he has been writing novels.

Richards has always been concerned about nature and the environment. In some of his book he expresses it, trying to make a point to the public. In one case he wrote of the homes of rabbits being destroyed for real estate property.

In Richards’ past he has written many stories. But is most famously known for his two animal novels, Watership Down and The Plague Dogs. Both a mix of comedy, tragedy,  horror, and extremely fictional.

He came up with Watership Down when he was going in a long car drive and was telling his two daughters a story about a warren full of rabbits in danger. As soon as he finished his daughters convinced him into publishing it. It took 2 long years to write, and 13 major publishers rejected it. When it was finally published it became a huge success. In total it made a profit of more money than all of his other books put together. It won 2 awards, the Carnegie medal and the Guardian award.
