SELECTED RESEARCH LINKS - Look over these links before going to a search engine! 

Electric Library (Big Chalk)  BigChalk has more than just periodicals. You can browse through the "Topics" listings or you can search the "Reference" section for information in encyclopedias, almanacs and other reference materials. Thank you, PTA!

The Mariners' Museum Age of Exploration   This site contains biographies, maps, timelines and other information on explorers from ancient times through the eighteenth century.  

Medicine Through Time The BBC presents an interactive and informative site covering diseases and health, anatomical understanding, public health and healthcare from ancient through modern times

Rabbit in the Moon - This is an awesome sight on Mayan culture including architecture, calendar, hieroglyphics and interesting oddities.

Electronic Passport to Chinese History - This site is rich with text and images including information on Chinese Dynasties, Confucius, Genghis and Kublai Khan, Marco Polo and more.

The Leonardo DaVinci Gallery - This comprehensive site covers the great master's life, showing many pages from his sketch books and models of many of his inventions.

ONLINE PERIODICALS:

Electric Library (Big Chalk):  This  large database of periodicals, radio/TV interviews, maps, photographs and reference books is made available to us thanks to our wonderful PTA.

FindArticles.com This is one of the few free databases to get periodical articles online. Search a wide variety of titles, or browse the articles in a particular periodical.

PRIMARY SOURCES Finding primary sources over 100 years old takes time and effort. Explore the links below, knowing that you will have to read, analyze and select your links carefully to find what you are looking for. 

Lives, the Biography Resource - This huge collections of biographies is searchable by name, era or country. The sites contain maps, sketches, photographs, letters, and other primary sources.

Tudor History - This site provides information covering British monarchs from the Tudor Period (Henry VII, Henry VIII, The Wives of Henry VIII, Edward VI,  Jane Grey , Mary I, Elizabeth I) Click on "Electronic Tests and Documents"

The Galileo Project - This site has more than just information about Galileo. It covers the scientific community of the 16th and 17th centuries.

Eyewitness: Middle Ages and Renaissance - "History through the eyes of those who lived it".

Primary Sources for Medieval Military History

Ancient Mesoamerican Civilizations: This is a collection of information on civilizations includes Mayan and Aztec government, writing systems, calendars, religions and more. 

European History Primary Sources:  This collection of primary sources stretches from the Middle Ages to modern events. It was put together for a high school honors history course.

RESEARCH TOOLS

NoodleBib Use NoodleBib to construct flawless citations, complete with annotations. You'll need the username and password, available in the CMS library.

Easybib This is another online citation builder that you can access from home.

Citation Guidelines - This is a printable version of the MLA guidelines that were handed out in class.

Online Writing Lab: MLA Format- This thorough guide from Purdue University provides examples of citation format for types of sources that are not listed on your handout/

Note Taking to Avoid Plagiarism  This handout describes an efficient note taking process that will help you organize your research notes and can eliminate inadvertent plagiarism!

Google Advanced Search Use the advanced search features of this and other search engines to perform more efficient searches and find the specific information you seek!

Altavista Advanced Search Don't just stick to the same old search engine all the time. Different search engines yield different results.

Hotbot Advanced Search This is a great search engine where you can customize your won search home pages to have the search features (and the colors!) that you choose.
