The book Cheaper by the Dozen
written by Frank B. Gilbreth, Jr. and Ernestine Gilbreth Carey, two
characters in the book, is about a the Gilbreth family. The main
characters in the story were Frank GIlbreth, the father and motion
study expert, his wife Lillian, who is his semi-partner in his motion
study business and their twelve children, six boys and six girls,
their names were Anne, Ernestine, Martha, Frank, Mary, Bill, Lilian,
Fred, Jack, Bob, Dan, and Jane, the baby. In the story the authors
told about their childhood. One of their “adventures” was they
went to their mother’s family’s house and met their godparents. My
favorite character is the father, Frank because he is really funny.
The authors were not trying to make a point by writing this book, they
were just writing an autobiography.
I think I could relate to the family a little bit because I have four sisters, not exactly twelve but still a lot. I think I relate mostly to Jane because we are both the youngest in our families. I have felt some of the same feelings as their family did at the end of the book, but you are going to have to read the book to find out what happened. I absolutely loved this book, it was so funny and exciting, I would read it over and over again. My favorite part of the book was when there was a guest for dinner and Jack burped and he said to the guest, “Mr. Allen, please! I am not in the mood for an organ recital, because that was what his father would say if he burped. My least favorite part of the book was when I finished reading it because I enjoyed it so much. I would not change anything in this book because that would be changing the family’s past. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone; I think everyone should read this book because it is just such a great book. There is not a certain type of person I would recommend this book to, I would recommend this book to everyone because I really liked it and I do not really like to read. |
